The Katikkiro of Buganda Owek.Charles Peter Mayiga has revealed the reasons why the Kabaka birthday run was not held over the weekend.

Usually, the birthday run is always held on the preceding Sunday before Kabaka’s birthday.

On Wednesday, April 13 this week, His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will turn 67 years of age.

Mayiga told the media during a press briefing at Mengo on Monday that the run did not take place on Sunday, 10th April since Kabaka is out of the country yet he usually flags off the marathon participants.

Another reason that hindered the run from taking place is the birthday kits being held at the customs department though the Kingdom’s partners, Airtel Uganda are working on the modalities to have them released.

Katikkiro Mayiga however clarified that this year’s Kabaka birthday run is expected to be held in May after Kabaka’s return from Europe where he traveled for medical check-up and attending to the Kingdom official duties as well.

The Kabaka Birthday Run is an annual event celebrated to mark the King’s birthday and highlighting a particular theme related to health.

For the third year, the Kabaka Birthday run will be focusing on driving awareness about HIV/AIDS and encouraging men to get tested and treated.

The Kabaka who left the Entebbe aboard the KLM Airlines last month, is traversing through different countries in Europe, which include the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Germany, according to the Katikkiro.

According to Katikkiro Mayiga who led a team of kingdom officials to accompany the Kabaka to Entebbe International Airport, he usually takes time off to visit his medical team, for a routine health check, whenever he travels abroad for certain engagements.
