In a bid to scale up oxygen production, the Ministry of Health is in the process of upgrading oxygen production capacity and oxygen therapy apparatus in the public sector at the regional referral hospitals and a backup plant at the National Medical Stores- NMS.

This was revealed by the Assistant Commissioner in Charge of Inspection and Compliance at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Aggrey Batesaki who represented the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwiine at the ground breaking for the construction of a 120 cylinder per-day oxygen plant at the Joint Medical Stores –JMS Nsambya.

The plant will start producing oxygen in April 2022 after completion of the construction works.

The Joint Medical Stores Executive Director Dr. Bildard Baguma says the plant will produce 816,000 liters of oxygen which is equivalent to 120 oxygen cylinders, adding that they will be distributed using the last mile delivery system to private and public health facilities not for profit but to increase access of oxygen to save life.
