Famers have been advised to embrace technology to gain more in their trade.

The Katikkiro of Buganda kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga while giving his speech after signing a 3 years renewed agreement between the Kingdom owned Telecom K2 and Airtel Uganda at Bulange Mengo, said that through the use of technology like phones farmers can be helped to get information concerning agriculture for example regarding markets for their produce online and agricultural inputs among others.

Mayiga has applauded Airtel Uganda for renewing their contract with K2 Telecom because it helps people in Buganda using K2 Telecom to reach out to their families, business partners and studies through the cheap services offered by Airtel Uganda.

Meanwhile, the Airtel Uganda Managing Director, Manoj Murali has thanked the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for allowing Airtel to cooperate with his kingdom and pledged more support towards the Kingdom’s socio-economic developmental activities.

In 2018, Buganda Kingdom joined forces with telecommunications company Airtel Uganda to breathe a new life into K2 telecom which was in May of the same year closed by Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) over failure to pay taxes totaling to Shs95.8m.

K2 Telecom is owned by the Buganda Kingdom as major shareholders, alongside other managing partners, including former finance minister Maria Kiwanuka and Kiwalabye Male, the former Chief Executive Officer of Buganda Land Board (BLB).

The telecommunications company which was established in 2013 offers both SMS and data services and it is headquartered on Ring Road in Katwe, Kampala.
