The released 2019 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations results have showed inmates to have failed to get first grades.

According to the results, Prison Services registered 49 candidates, 48 appeared for the examinations none of them got a first grade, 9 got second grades, 14 passed in third grade, 23 in fourth grades and two failed.

Students with special needs have again performed well with the best student coming from St. Henry’s Kitovu in Masaka who scored 13 points, Odongo said.

Although Biologye has registered Good performance compared to the previous years; there is need to investigate the low performance in science subjects amongst female students at this level according to the Chairperson of UNEB Prof. Mary Okwakol.

Prof. Okwakol has said examinations of 1,262 students have been withheld for suspected examinations malpractice.

Government is still challenged with the poor performance in Sciences that were made compulsory according to the 2004, government policy for Ordinary Level even with the the SESEMAT programme introduce with the assistance of Japan Government to improve the teaching ability of science and mathematics teachers at secondary schools to improve performance.
