The Country’s monthly inflation rate has increased by 1% for the month ending August 2022 compared to July according to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics -UBOS.

 

According to the findings, this has been attributed to the monthly core inflation that rose by 0.7% in August from 1.0% recorded in July 2022.

 

 

Maize flour inflation increased by 3.5%, dried silver fish known as Mukene rose by 17.4%, service inflation such as transport  rose by 1.8%, Energy, utilities inflation such as fuel increased by 2.3% while food crops and other related items rose by 3.1% among others.

 

While releasing the findings at the UBOS headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday, the Bureau Stastician Aliziki Kawunda Lubega revealed that by geographical area, Mbale registered the highest inflation of 11.8% followed by Gulu with 11.7 percent.

 

Kampala especially in amongst the low  income earners, the inflation rose to 10.1percent and the least inflation rate was recorded in Kampala High income earners at 7.6% attributed to the annual housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels inflation that decreased to 5.2% in August down from 5.3% registered in July 2022.
