The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has noted that the report findings on the investigations into the operations of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) will be released within 2-4 weeks from now.

In March 2023, IG commenced inquiries into the operations of OPM and its alleged mismanagement of relief items over the past two years.

Beti Kamya, the Inspector General of Government says their investigation is not only focusing on the Karamoja Iron Sheets scandal but the entire relief program in the OPM for the past two financial years before the supplementary budget of  Sh39bn was released.

Kamya says that as of now their investigation has discovered some gaps in the storage, management, procurement, delivery, distribution of relief items where the mismanagement of resources is stemming from.

Kamya also clarified that they haven’t released any list of Ministers that they are investigating but they only wrote to those whose names were found at the OPM stores to explain the circumstances under which they got the iron sheets.

She also commented on the National Social Security Fund findings indicating that their report is ready but they will first engage the Minister Of Gender, Labour and Social Development before its release for public consumption.

This comes after the NSSF Board recommended for the IGG’s investigation in the alleged abuse of office, corruption and mismanagement of NSSF by the former Executive Director of the Fund, Richard Byarugaba.
