The four Plaintiffs accusing the House of Bishops of ‘wrongfully’ nullifying the election of Rev. Canon Godfrey Kasana Ssemakula as the fourth Bishop of the Luweero Anglican Diocese have completed serving the summonses to the 37 Bishops.

On 20th December 2023, the High Court in Luweero issued summons to 37 bishops, including the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda (CoU), Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu to defend themselves.

On June 28, 2023, the House of Bishops, convening at Kabalega Resort Hotel in Hoima, resolved to nullify Rev. Can. Ssemakula’s election based on allegations that his integrity had been misrepresented.

Four petitioners namely; Kakembo Moses, Ssajjabi Christopher Katende, Bemba Moses, and Ssendowooza Saight decided to petition the high court.

Through M/S Kibirango & Partners Advocates, the plaintiffs accuse the House of Bishops of violating basic human rights and breaching care for the Christians.

They demand a declaration that Rev. Canon Kasana is still the duly elected bishop of Luweero Diocese.

Now in the latest developments Erasto Kibirango, one of the Plaintiffs’ lawyers has in an exclusive interview with Radio Sapientia revealed that they have served all the targeted 37 Bishops individually, saying they found every Bishop in his diocese.

He adds that the last one to be served was in Karamoja on Monday, January 8, 2024 due to its being far-flung.
