The Catholic Church in Uganda through her various religious congregations and Parishes has today commemorated the Valentine’s Day, that is observed every February 14th where lovers show their dear ones moments of love.

The Catholic Church started giving a special treat of the day as far back as 496 officially the start of springtime and in the 5th century Pope Gelasius declared February 14 St. Valentine’s Day, a saint who strived to have fiancés or those who had proposed to one another to get officially married in the Catholic Church

However the modern generation picked it on giving it colour and in Uganda the day started to be publisized in 1990s especially in Uganda where lovers wear red colours said to depict love and give each other presents.

In Kampala Archdiocese the Congregation of the Holy Cross through its Holy Cross Family Ministries department that looks towards harmonious marriages, prayer life in the family at their offices in Nsambya today organized a special party for the married couples starting with a Eucharistic Mass where Fr. John Baptist Nsubuga the Director Holy Cross Family Ministries East Africa reminded the couples of their union in God, respect, love, hard work and forgiveness in marriage.

Fr. Nsubuga condemned adultery and poor ideological belief and practice by some men to have many women while under matrimonial marriage saying it’s a curse for one to abuse a union blessed by God a foundation of the Catholic Church.

He prayed for the married couples present that even renewed their marriage vows and to the all world to respect marriage that is between man and a woman a bed for procreation.
