The Congregation of Holy Cross in East Africa that has been a district under the Province of USA has become a full-fledged Province of East Africa.

This has been announced by the District Superior, Fr. Dr. Cyprian Binaka who will become the first Provincial Superior of the Province of East Africa.

Speaking from their headquarters at Nsambya-Ggogonya, Fr. Binaka said the General Chapter held in Rome in July 2022 confirmed the elevation of the East Africa region to the Province level having satisfied the requirements that include; the number of Priests and Religious Brothers, Houses of Formation, Parishes, Schools and Hospitals they have founded to promote formal education and spirituality in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

The Congregation of the Holy Cross founded in 1837 by Basil Moreau, in Le Mans, France, came to Uganda in 1958 on call by the White Fathers to support spiritual and formal education in the Rwenzori sub region, the area covered by Fort Portal Catholic Diocese.

Fr. Vincent McCauley who later became the first Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese was appointed to lead the mission.

And in the region of their mission and evangelization is where the main inauguration ceremony is going to take place from 1st to 8th January 2023.

The celebration will be climaxed with a Eucharistic Celebration at Vilka Cathedral led by Rt. Rev. Bishop Robert Muhiirwa and the guest of honour is expected to be the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

The Congregation of the holy Cross is spread in all continents and its Charism is; “To Educate in the Faith” and in East Africa Holy Cross Family Ministries has done a lot in promoting family prayer.
