The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has expressed worry over the carbon credits that could cause more environmental destruction due to companies’ failure to respect the instrument.

Carbon credits are a type of market-based instrument that allow companies, governments, and other organizations to address their greenhouse gas emissions by funding projects that reduce or remove carbondioxide or other harmful greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the atmosphere.

While addressing Public Accountants at the13th edition Financial Reporting (FiRE) Award in Kampala, Tayebwa noted that factories have resorted to destroy the environment instead of protecting it.

The Deputy Speaker further expresses concern over the persistent refusal by the businesses sector in urban center to pay tax which he says is affecting the country’s growth and development.

SP Eddy Ssekanjako, the Board Treasurer of the Police Exodus SACCO expressed his gratitude for winning the certificate of recognition award which he says will boost their operation and attract members to continue trusting the project.

The FiRe Awards are an annual ceremony through which excellence in financial reporting is recognized and rewarded and Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited worn the Gold Award, National Social Security Fund (NSSF) won the Silver and finally Post Bank Uganda Limited won the bronze award.
