The Prime Minister has issued a strong warning to Local Government leaders against misusing the USD217 million, approximately Sh803 billion provided for women entrepreneurs benefiting from the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP).

This was at Kololo Independence Grounds while launching the flagship programme dubbed ‘Growth’ that has been enabled by the World Bank’s International Development Agency (IDA) as a grant meant to support financing for women projects.

Nabbanja noted that the Government will be tough on any Government servant who will divert this money but will support all implementers that are to exercise the high degree of transparency and accountability during the execution of this project.

She however pleads to the programme implementers to ensure reach out to women and guide them on how to benefit from government programs.

The premier says the project will cultivate a sense of ownership among the Uganda women entrepreneurs and make it easy to mobilize the beneficiaries.

She assures the country that the government is committed at implementing this project well and will monitor its implementation to ensure it succeeds.

Betty Amongi, the Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development said that the five-year World Bank financing grant will target existing women projects that are ready to transit from micro into big businesses.
