Government has issued seven guidelines to streamline the operations of taxis and buses within the central Business District especially during this festive season.

Among the directives include prohibiting blockers  of various buses on streets, banning loading and unloading outside parks, restricting booking centers in ungazetted areas and stopping motor vehicles without statutory instruments such as route charts, licenses, PSV among others from being on the road, directing bus and taxi operators to go digital to provide  services.

Addressing the media in Kampala on Tuesday, the Minister of State for Kampala, Kabuye Kyofatogabye said this was resolved after an abrupt visit to various parks in Kisenyi, Namayiba park and new taxi park among others where they found blockers charge exorbitantly from passengers, booking centers charge highly, extortion of passengers, poor hygiene, and discovering many operating without statutory instruments among others.

Minister Kabuye says that the enforcement of these guidelines will start immediately with the help of security agencies and failure to adhere to them, one will be charged with a fine of Shs6 million or imprisonment of 6 months or both.
