The National Physical Planning Board (NFPB) has started scrutinizing physical development plans for local governments across the country to assess their readiness for approval before they are operationalised.

This is in accordance with the Physical Planning Act, which declares the whole country a planning area and established a framework that guides physical planning at all lower local governments.

According to the Board Chairperson Amanda Ngabirano, over 30 local government physical development plans have been considered.

She says by regional representation, 2 out of 6 have been considered, 6 districts out of the total 135, 1 City out of 10, 14 out of 31 Municipalities, 45 out of 580 town councils as well as 23 out of 1,485 sub counties.

Ngabirano has however implored local governments to ensure that their plans measure to standard in accordance with the physical planning principles.
