Government has refuted allegations that political prisoners in detention centers were arrested based on their political party affiliation in the country.

This comes after relatives of 18 missing supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) stormed the High Court Civil Division in Kampala today demanding their immediate release.

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance says that people are arrested on the basis of having committed crimes but not their political affiliations since the country is in multiparty dispensation.

He says that there are many inmates in prisons and police cells that subscribe to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) due to the suspicion of engaging in criminal activities that violate the laws of this country.

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi while at the High Court in Kampala today accused the Government of abducting the NUP supporters and later accusing the party of being behind these abductions on its own people which is not possible.
