The Ministry of Health has shamelessly admitted that there is two outbreaks of Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) and Rift Valley Fever (RVF) in the cattle corridor districts.

Addressing the media in Kampala today, the Minister for Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng confirms that since August 2017, 4 cases of CCHF and 5 cases of RVF have been reported and one person has died of Crimean Congo in Nakaseke district yet 3 people dead for rift valley from Kiboga, Buikwe and Mityana districts.

Early this month, MOH through the State Minister for General Duties Sarah Opendi and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine refuted information for the outbreak of CCHF that followed a young boy with symptoms placed under isolation at Kiwoko Hospital in Nakaseke district.

However, Aceng denies for the ministry to have refuted the outbreak information saying that a national rapid team of experts is already dispatched in the district of Nakaseke, Sembabule, Kyegegwa, Lyantonde, Mubende and Gomba to set up appropriate response structures and spray ticks and biting insects.

She emphasizes that cooked meat and boiled milk don’t transmit CCHF and RVF hence advises people dealing in these products to use personal protective gears.

CCHF is caused by an infection from ticks while RVF is spread by culex mosquito but both diseases have similar symptoms include, headache, high fever, back pain, stomach pain and vomiting.
