Government is mobilizing funds to relocate all people from areas prone to landslides in this rainy season to avoid losing lives.

The Minister of ICT and National Guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi while addressing journalists on Tuesday at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala said that the government is concerned of losing lives under such environmental disasters yet they can be avoided.

Baryomunsi says they are starting with people in Bugishu region to safer places but the government has also assigned technocrats to undertake a countrywide study to locate places said to be dangerous for habitation, mostly people living in areas below 30° gradients to have them relocated.

However, the minister has disclosed that some people resist relocation to places provided by the government because of traditional attachments but this time round the victims have been given a chance to look for places of their choice and the government is willing to pay for it.

At least 1190 people from 170 households by Wednesday last week had been affected by the landslides in Kasese district according to a rapid assessment report by the Red Cross volunteers.

Meanwhile, Uganda will join the rest of the world to commemorate the International Day of Sign Language on September 23rd 2022 and national celebrations will be held in Iganga Municipality at Iganga primary school putting into account the observance of the Rights and values of Deaf People.
