The Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has committed to table the much awaited electoral reforms before parliament as early as possible.

She revealed this during the launch of the five year EC strategic plan 2022/23 to 2026/27 that will cost 2.5 trillion shillings. The indicated sum of money comprises 1.3 trillion shillings the commission plans to spend on the 2026 general elections.

Nabbanja says her office will ensure that all the necessary reforms are tabled and the required funds for its implementation are released in time.

Nabbanja has however warned political parties against carrying out political activities save for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is mandated as the head of the state to move across the country.

The Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao appealed to the Prime Minister to spearhead the processes of tabling the electoral reforms before cabinet but wondered why the government continues to create new administrative units which cost the country and the Electoral Commission in terms of planning.

The Chairman of the Electoral Commission Justice Simon Byabakama revealed that they would have loved to organize a cost effective election but they are tied by the increasing cost of living.
