Counsel Denis Nyombi who is representing the embattled social activist Frank Gashumba has sued the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), the Director Criminal Investigations Grace Akullo and the Commandant of the Special Investigations Division in Kireka contesting the continued detention of his client since October 31 without charge.

Counsel Nyombi who is representing Gashumba in the case filed the suit before Nakawa Magistrate Court seeking court orders for the immediate release of Gashumba and his brother Innocent Kasumba.

He says the continued detention of the duo without charge is unlawful, unjustified and unconstitutional.

Nyombi also says that the suspects have been denied their right to legal representation as they can’t be reached by their lawyers and denied police bond.

Gashumba was detained on Tuesday; two days after his brother was picked up for allegedly impersonating as Ministry of Defense officials and obtaining money by false pretense according to the Deputy army Spokesperson Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki on parading the suspects said the duo was picked up following a whistle blower’s report indicating that they were trying to fleece an investor

It is not yet clear when the suspects will appear in court.
