Masaka Diocesan Education Secretary, Rev.Fr. Michael Kamulegeya has called on government to do thorough investigations on fire outbreaks in schools and thereafter release reports for the public to know the cause, for this may help in reducing this vice.

He made this call during an inspection visit to St. Bernard’s S.S Mannya in Rakai District where unknown arsonists sneaked into the school on November 11th, 2018, and locked up the Senior Three dormitories to ensure that none of the 60 occupants left and torched it killing at least ten students.

He says it was a big blow and a shock for the school and diocese to lose its students and properties at ago.

Fr. Kamulegeya was dismayed that much as government pledged to support in the reconstruction and restoration of the dormitory but since then his pledge has never been fulfilled.

Meanwhile, Rakai District Education Officer John Baptist Ssemakula told our reporter that since the incident occurred, they have tried to see to it that security at the school is tightened to ensure that such a heinous act never happens again.
