The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change FDC has called for the introduction of a transitional government which will cater for the situation of no elections when they are constitutionally supposed to take place.

The electoral commission last month released a revised road map in which they informed the country that campaigns for the upcoming general elections will be through media.

The party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi while appearing before the legal and parliamentary affairs committee said that the party is opposed to any kind of hybrid election as it is undemocratic.

Amuriat says that since the other avenue was to have the president declare a state of emergency which was not done they believe another option would be introducing a bill in parliament on transitional government.

Amuriat also says that the kind of campaigns the electoral commission is introducing are not only unconstitutional but also curtails people’s freedom and rights to speech, association, movement and assembly.

The secretary general Nandala Mafabi  further says that political parties have not been given sufficient time to select their flag bearers and believes that if they cannot have a normal election in the present circumstance then the country should hold any election at all.
