The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) tasked the Ugandan government to compel the East African Parliament and the regional community to intervene in the ongoing protests in Kenya.

Kenyan riot police fired tear gas Monday to disperse demonstrators gathered in Nairobi for a day of action called by the opposition to protest the country’s punishing cost of living crisis.

The Kenyan government of President William Ruto has vowed to take a tough stance over the demonstrations, which opposition leader Raila Odinga vowed would go ahead despite not receiving police authorization.

Demonstrators also hurled rocks at anti-riot police outside government offices in the capital, while about two dozen people were arrested, including two opposition MPs, correspondents at the scene said.

Addressing the press at their party headquarter Najjanankumbi on Monday, the FDC Deputy Spokesperson John Kikonyogo said the Ugandan government can use  the East African parliament and Diplomatic relations to see that the situation does not get out of control to the extent of affecting Uganda.

Meanwhile another opposition leader Joseph Kabule, the President of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) calls for quick intervention between two parties in neighboring Kenya to stop the likely economic crisis in the East African countries.

Kabuleeta told the press at their party headquarters in Rubaga that Kenya is the lead provider of most of the basic necessities to the rest of the East African countries and any likelihood of rioting has a ripple effect to all member states.
