The report released by the government indicates an increase in international passengers to a total of 842,429 travelers including arrivals and departures in the first half of this year.

The report shows a total of 413,223 arrivals and 429,206 departures at Entebbe International Airport from January to June 2023.

The records are far way above those of the previous period of January to June 2022 which recorded a total of 707,750 international passengers that included 326,384 arrivals and 381,366 departures.

While releasing the findings at the Uganda media centre in Kampala on Thursday, the Director General of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Fred Bamwesigye noted that this reflects 134,679 more passengers registered in the same period of last year.

The report also indicates an increase in domestic arrivals from 3,863 passengers in 2022 to 5,116 passengers and increase of domestic departures from 3,411 to 4,314.

However, the report highlights a reduction in cargo exports from 21,521 in 2022 to 18,817 in 2023 and a further reduction in cargo imports from 10,075 in 2022 to 7,125 this year.

Though the international civil aviation organization estimated a full recovery of Africa’s aviation Industry from the diverse effects of COVID-19 by 2024, Bamwesigye is however optimistic that Uganda will attain full recovery this year given the current performance in the released report.
