Ministry of Education and Sports has started nationwide inspection of schools to establish the compliance to the new curriculum called basic skills curriculum.

According to the Spokesperson Ministry of Education and Sports Dr. Denis Mugimba, they want among others to ascertain the availability of text books, computers, recorders and reading materials that can promote skills development as they learn.

The new curriculum was interrupted by the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020 but following the re-opening of schools on January 10th 2022, ministry of education said S1,2 and 3 should be taught using the new curriculum while students in candidates classes were given an abridged curriculum to cope up for the lost time during the lockdown.

In a press conference at the Uganda media center Dr. Mugimba said the inspections starts today January 31st and will run until February 28th  2022 with emphasis put on schools in rural area and schools catering for learners with special needs.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Education and Sports together with the Education Review Commission are to carry out public consultation on how best the education and sports sector can be revamped to the expected standard of the general public.

Denis Mugimba says there have been numerous proposals including the 1992 government white paper whose proposals only 40% have been implemented and the rest along with what Ugandans have must be collected, analysed and implemented for the good of the education sector in Uganda.
