The National Electoral Commission (EC) has advised Political Parties and individual politicians to prepare for the forthcoming by-elections at the Local Government Council level in at least 110 districts across the country.

 

The categories of vacancies to be filled during these by-elections include; the Kayunga District Chairperson, Chairpersons at Sub County level, as well as Councilors at the District, and Sub County levels, including Councilors representing Special Interest Groups (SIGs).

 

Justice Simon Byabakama, the EC Chairperson says the programme is to start with updating the National Voters’ Register from 22nd to 26th October 2021 at the parish/ward level in each of the affected electoral areas.

 

Polling for the Kayunga District Chairperson, and other Local Government Councils shall take place on Thursday 16th December 2021, at all polling stations in the affected electoral areas.

 

Meanwhile, Byabakama has advised the leadership of the new formed political pressure group known as the People’s Front for Transition (PFT) to register as a political party to fully join political activities in the country.

 

He made the remarks at the EC Warehouse located at Banda along Jinja Road this Monday as he kick started preparations for 2026 General elections starting with the handing over of 153 brand new vehicles that are to facilitate EC field based staff, starting this December with By-elections in 110 districts, followed by LCI and LCII chairpersons elections that will conducted in 2023.
