The Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has called for the release of all political prisoners arrested during the 2021 electoral process.

This is contained in his Easter message to Christians as they prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the message, the Kabaka congratulates his subjects for engaging in the election process and prayed that God calms down all those still harboring hate, anger, shame and pain.

However, several people were picked up by security during campaigns, elections and after. Several families have also complained about missing relatives.

The Internal Affairs Minister, Gen. Jeje Odongo has since confirmed the arrest of 177 people for alleged possession of military stores and meetings to plan for post-election violence.

However, several MPs led by Mathias Mpuuga, the Masaka Municipality MP have contested the list, saying there are more than 423 political prisoners. It is these that the Kabaka wants to be released.

On corruption, the Kabaka says that is sad to see leaders still involved in acts of corruption, greed, embezzlement, selfishness and others.

The Kabaka also appealed to his subjects to continue adhering to the guidance by doctors to avoid contracting the coronavirus disease.
