The Democratic Party (DP) has lashed out to Ugandan parliament over passing the Petroleum amendment bill 2023 which gives monopoly of supplying oil in Uganda to Uganda National Oil Company Ltd (UNOC).

The party acting Spokesperson Ismail Kirya during the press conference at party headquarters in Kampala said that the bill was rushed and it doesn’t seem to address the high fuel prices.

Kirya adds that the Parliament needed a wider consultations from the stake holders and the minority report wasn’t given chance to be discussed adding that government is going use this opportunity to manipulate Ugandans through levying high taxes on UNOC which will in turn increase fuel prices.

Meanwhile DP has appreciated the opposition stand to put government on spot to account for the abducted and all those who’s where abouts are not known.

However advised them not to use it discriminatory, because once a law becomes selective it loses meaning.
