The opposition Democratic Party-DP has added on their voice to condemn people on social media that are celebrating the death of the former Security Minister, the late General Elly Tumwine who succumbed to lung cancer last week.

This comes after the Minister for Internal Affairs Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire said that the different people who have expressed satisfaction with the death of bush war comrade Gen Tumwine have their right to do so.

While addressing journalists in a weekly DP press conference in Kampala on Tuesday, Fred Mwesigwa the party president Press Secretary said that celebrations in the form of mockery to the deceased is bad and tarnishes the country’s image.

Mwesigwa however says that Ugandans join other mourners in mourning for a human rights fighter and true patriotic soldier rather than rejoicing his death since anybody can make a mistake and only God has the authority to judge.

But, he has challenged men in uniform and leaders to use opportunity by serving Ugandans instead of violating their offices.

Following Tumwine’s death, a specific section of Ugandans took to social media to express satisfaction and jubilate.

Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda while commenting on Tumwine’s death said that it is sad the General had died before learning his lessons.
