A District councilor representing Kasawo Town Council, Isah Kityamuyisa Sadu has petitioned the Electoral Commission and the Attorney General over the government’s extension of LC1, 2 and Women Council elections.
Recently, the government extended these elections for 180 days due to lack of funds to run them.
Kityamuyisa said that according to the constitution and the local government Act, the country can only extend elections when there is a war or a state of emergency in the country.
In the feasibility study taken at the grass root level, Ugandans are suffering and the only solution is to have the government organize the elections immediately.
According to Kityamuyisa, the UGX 59billion talked about facilitating these elections could be avoided if there was good will and still have the new leaders elected.
