The School Director and Head Teacher of Lhubiriha Secondary School are under Police interrogation in connection to the gruesome attack that left 37 students dead in Kasese district.

This comes after the Kasese Resident District Commissioner Lieutenant Joe Walusimbi yesterday said that security operatives working with residents got intelligence information about the attack on Saturday evening that aided in the arrests.

The death toll in the suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel attack on Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese district on Friday has risen to 42.

The dead include 37 students and five non-students, including a school security guard.

The assailants targeted female students, killing 20 using hammers, while 17 male students were killed with machetes and bullets. The attackers later set fire to the student’s dormitory, resulting in the incineration of several bodies beyond recognition.

Now, Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson says that they arrested the school director together with the head teacher and other 20 suspects allegedly having links to the gruesome raid.

Enanga further says that they have ordered the school administration to also produce a list of all students claimed to have been at the school during the time of the attack to help in establishing the number of those abducted.

The Uganda People Defense Forces-UPDF attributed the attack of Lhubiriha Secondly in Nyabugando Parish, Karambit Sub-County to the Allied Democratic Forces -ADF rebel group.

It is alleged that at least 16 students are still missing and feared to have been abducted by the attackers.
