The office of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament has given financial support of 15million shillings to the families of the incarcerated legislatures Muhammad Ssegirinya of Kawempe North and Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West.

Each of Ssegirinya and Sswanyana’s wives walked away with 5million shillings and the same was given to Ssegirinya’s mother Justine Nakajumba.

Both families were scheduled to meet the Deputy Speaker Anita Among this Friday morning but due to other engagements she failed and instead was represented by Iganga Municipality MP Peter Mugema and Kasambya County MP David Kabanda to handover the money to the beneficiaries.

The MPs apologized on behalf of the Deputy Speaker and delivered her sympathies to the family for the pain they are going through due to the long-term detention of the legislatures.

Responding towards the donation, the two families appreciated the office of the Deputy Speaker and requested that government grants the MPs bail as police completes its investigations into the alleged cases of terrorism and murder labeled against the legislatures.

Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana have been on remand since September 2021 battling charges of murder, terrorism and aiding and abetting of terrorism in connection with the Masaka murders that happened last August.
