Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the family of the female traffic officer, have demanded on government under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to make a forceful resignation for the retired Maj. Gen Matayo Kyaligonza from Burundi Ambassadorship and the party’s Vice Chairperson for Western Region for violating and dehumanizing her.

Maj. Gen Kyaligonza and two Military Police soldiers were seen in a video clip shared on social media harassing Sergeant Esther Namaganda who had stopped them from making a U-turn in the middle of a road in Seeta, Mukono District, over the weekend.

Addressing a joint Press conference at Ntinda in Kampala, the Human Rights Network (HURINET) Coordinator for Human Rights and Rule of Law, Patrick Tumwine says that Maj. Gen. Kyaligonza should also be tasked to apologize and compensate Peter Otai, a journalist that was harassed while filming their illegalities.

Maria Goletti Nabakooza, a daughter to the victim request government to react positively against her mother’s assault as a way of valuing Namaganda as a lady and a police officer who has served for 25years.

The Executive Director Foundation for Human Rights Initiative Dr Livingston Ssewannyana, has also demanded for the reprimanding of the military soldiers already in the Military Police custody over their unconstitutional behaviour and also commended the Journalists who was first to expose such a barbaric act.
