Buganda Road Magistrate Court has ordered for the immediate release of all Makerere University Students who were arrested during their three day demonstrating against the15% tuition increment.

Her worship Robert Mukanza issued the order this afternoon following an application by counsels Kizza Eron and Okwalinga Moses demanding for the release of the students who are alleged to be in need of medical care.

More than 100 students were arrested since the demonstration on Tuesday Among the arrested is the People Power leaning guild president, Julius Kateregga and Ezra Byakutangaza, the University’s Guild Speaker, among several other student leaders and have since been detained at Wandegeya police station.

Some of the students were served with suspension letters from the university while still in police cells.

The situation at Makerere University is slowly normalizing but students are living in fear over their security.

Students claim security officers raided their halls of residents especially at Lumumba hall beating them up which they say is against the law.

There also claims that one of the female guild leaders Siperia Molly Saasirabo was waylaid and assaulted to the extent of getting hospitalized. The students demand the management of Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe to refrain from brutalizing students.

Students wanted a united front against the university resolution to increase the tuition which is implemented as part of a policy which was passed by the University Council in June 2018.
