The High Court Civil Division has granted a temporary injunction restraining the Uganda Medical Association and all its agents from implementing resolutions dated December 6th, 2022 that expelled the President of the association, Dr. Samuel Oledo.

In his ruling, Justice Musa Ssekaana has also stayed whatever was done on December 18th, 2022 where a new association President Dr. Edith Nakku was appointed until the main cause is disposed of contending that the purported new leadership has not been in office for more than 24 hours and therefore there is no prejudice suffered by the respondent.

In his grounds of allowing the application, Justice Ssekaana highlighted that the applicant came to this court while he was still holding the position of President of Uganda Medical Association and the respondent were fully aware of the pending matters in court and were duly served on December 16th, 2022 thus their action to change the status quo is untenable emphasizing that court cannot be overrun through illegalities and ‘mob’ decisions.

Oledo ran to the High Court and sought for a temporary injunction after the Executive of the Association asked him to step aside after being accused of acting unprofessionally by involving himself in partisan politics, something he didn’t agree with.

Oledo’s troubles stem from the NRM Youth Patriotism Symposium that was held at Kololo Independence Grounds earlier this month where he led a group of alleged medical personnel to kneel before President Yoweri Museveni and asked him to stand again in 2026.
