The Managing Director of Radio Sapientia Rev. Fr Eustachius Lwemalika has applauded Councilor Robert Wasswa Sebunya of Mutundwe Kanaala Cell in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality Wakiso district for his efforts in promoting local talent and uniting society through games and sports.

He made the remarks during the closing ceremony of Councilor Wasswa Premier League Fans Cup held at St Michael Play Grounds in Mutundwe Kanaala Cell on Sunday.

Fr Lwemalika noted that besides keeping people healthy and united games and sports can now be adopted as one of the strategies to solving unemployment in the country since many people earn a living out of them.

He called on the government to extend more funding to the sports sector and also protect lands which occupy sports facilities like stadiums if the sports industry is to grow further.

In the meantime, Engineer Godfrey Ssemwanga alias “Kabuzi” the Mayor of Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality thanked Councilor Wasswa for using his little funds to organize the tournament which he said keeps the youths engaged hence preventing them from engaging in bad practices and pledged more support in the next edition.

Wasswa promised to continuously organize this tournament and also put up more activities that will unite the locals in his electoral area and beyond.

The tournament which has been running for the last three months organized by Wasswa who also doubles as a Sports Presenter of Torch Y’ebyemizannyo program at Radio Sapientia saw Barcelona fans emerge champions after registering a 2-0 win over Manchester United fans.

In the 3rd play-off, Newcastle United fans came from a goal down to defeat Chelsea fans 2-1.

In a curtain-raising game, Radio Sapientia Staff put up a spirited fight against Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality Councilor’s select team despite suffering a 5-3 penalty-shout outs defeat after normal time ending in a goalless draw.
