Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Matia Kasijja has called on the Ministry of water and Environment to find immediate solution for the ongoing contamination of Lake Victoria and its inhabitants.

According to Kasaijja, Lake Victoria currently receives contaminated water from Nakivubo channel which has resulted into change of color.

He adds that this is dangerous and a threat to Ugandans since the lake is the main source of water, supplied especially in Kampala Metropolitan.

He further warned that government will lose money in treating this water once the problem is not dealt with immediately.

Dark water with visible particles has occasionally been seen thrusting through Nakivubo channel down into Murchison Bay in Luzira, southwest of Kampala just a few meters away into Lake Victoria, an algal bloom covers part of Africa’s largest fresh water lake.
