City Hall court remands two Red Top Brigade youths

The City Hall Court has further remanded two youths Da-fala Ssenjako and Charles Mutaasa Kafeero who stormed Parliament last month.

The two who are believed to be members of the Red Top Brigade, a group opposed to President Museveni’s rule jumped into the parliament Chamber from the public gallery and disrupted parliament business as MPs debated a ministerial statement on the Land Information Systems Conference.

In the process, legislators started scampering for their safety.

They were arrested and charged with four counts, two for malicious damage to property and the other two for criminal trespass.

On February 25th 2020 Grade One Magistrate Fatuma Nabirye granted the two a cash bail of 1 million shillings and asked them to deposit their original national ID’s.

Despite paying the bail money, they were unable to deposit their National IDs which they say they lost during their arrest.

Detective Sergeant Alex Jurua from parliament on today told the court that they have only photocopies of the suspects’ national identity cards.

Nabirye was forced to remand the suspects and advised their lawyer Eron Kiiza to file an application seeking a review of their bail terms before the Chief Magistrate at Buganda road.

She also ordered prison authorities to take the suspects for medical treatment after they claimed they were sick.
