Well-wishers, friends and the faithful thronged Rubaga Cathedral to pray and pay tribute to the former Deputy Chief Justice Leticia Mukasa Kikonyogo who succumbed to cardiac arrest last Thursday November 23 at Mulago Hospital.

In the requiem mass led by Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, the late Justice Kikonyogo has been described as an exceptional Christian and woman who have portrayed professional service in administering justice to all.

Dr. Lwanga reminded the Christians about the importance of sacraments especially that of penance which helps a catholic to seek God’s pardon out of the sin.

The Bishop Emeritus of Lugazi diocese Dr Mathias Ssekamaanya acknowledged the late Kikonyogo as a hardworking and God fearing lady that is why Pope Emeritus Benedict 16th honored her as a papal night.

From Lubaga the body was transported to Parliament where it first lied in State at the Lobby and later parliament eulogized her.

The motion to appreciate Lady Justice Kikonyogo was read by the 1st Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali and seconded by Deputy Leader of opposition Roland Mugume, Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality’s Ssajjalyabene Sempala among others who applauded her for leading the judiciary without bias and her struggle for human rights and justice until her retirement in 2001.

The Justice Kikonyogo held various positions of responsibility first as Magistrate grade 1, Chief Magistrate, High court judge, Judge of the Supreme Court, and Deputy Chief Justice. She died at 77 years of age and survived with a husband and one child.

She will be laid to rest in Namulamba Ssekanyonyi in Luweero District on Saturday December 2, 2017
