Church of Uganda has also banned the use of polythene materials locally known as kaveera at Uganda Martyrs Anglican Shrine Namugongo – Nakiyanja during this year’s martyr’s day celebrations as a measure to protect the environment.

Catholic Church through the Chairperson of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, Bishop Joseph Antony Zziwa declared Kaveera free at Namugongo Catholic shrine two weeks ago saying this was in collaboration with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to have a friendly environment during the celebrations.

Addressing the media at the Church of Uganda Martyrs Shrine, the Bishop of Mityana Diocese Rt. Rev Stephen Kazimba Mugalu says that from June 3rd this year, there will no longer welcome kaveera at the Martyrs cerebrations.

Dr. Daniel Babikwa from NEMA welcomed Church of Uganda’s initiative of declaring Martyrs day celebration a Kaveera free.
