Centenary Bank, Uganda Institute of Banking and other financial institutions in Uganda have joined together to collectively support women and youth owned initiatives advocating for environmental protection in the country.

This effort is aimed at empowering the Savings Challenge Initiative campaign that seeks to inspire and enable all interested persons across Uganda to start small, save consistently and grow their money to achieve specific goals.

The Savings Challenge is set to run for one year until October 31, 2023, and is among the activities to celebrate the 2022 World Savings Day which was held under the theme, “Start Small, Grow Big: Be Green Smart”.

Joseph Balikudembe, the Executive Director of Centenary Bank during a joint press conference in which the institution received the savings box at Mapeera house in Kampala told the journalists that Ugandans need to embrace saving culture to generate their income as well as full filling their personal goals such as building houses, buying land among others.

He further noted that each financial institution has one week to save money and after rotating the box to all the institutions, the collected money will be given to selected women and youths with best campaigns of protecting green environment such as plastic recycling, Renewable energy, Biodiversity conservation among others.

Tilda Nabbanja, the Head of Financial literacy at Bank of Uganda (BOU) said soon they will announce the best women and Youths advocating for the green environment protection and the winners will be on World Saving day slated on 31st October 2023 handed over this money to support their cause of saving the environment.

She has also urged people to embrace saving culture for their social economic development.
