Catholic Members of Parliament (MPs) are demanding government to institute a commission of inquiry to investigate the threats against the Archbishop of Kampala Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

On Good Friday at the Ecumenical public way of the cross and Easter Sunday mass at Lubaga Cathedral, Dr. Lwanga revealed that he had reliable information that the state had planted spies in the church who have been threatening to kill him and spreading lies to President Museveni about church leaders wanting to overthrow the government.

In Press Conference held at Parliament today, MPs include the Mukono Municipality’s Betty Nambooze, Moses Kasibante of Rubaga North’s, Joseph Ssewungu of Kalungu West and Makindye Ssabagabo’s Sajjalyabeene Kigozi condemn the act, claiming that government aims at intimidating religious leaders and also causing division in church as it is with Muslims.

Nambooze and group demand that an independent committee with people of integrity be constituted and in case of failure they will conduct their own investigations and report to parliament.

Meanwhile; they have appealed to religious leaders not to stop commenting and giving advice on the political sphere in the country.
