The Catholic Bishops under the umbrella Association of Member Episcopal Conferences of East Africa AMECEA, have challenged Catholic medias to explore available technologies to improve on their performance.

According to the Fr. Andrew Kaufa the executive secretary of AMECEA social communications commission, digital media and social network is at journalist’s disposal making the work easier to inform the public, more vividly and above all to strive to change the society for the better.

Fr. Kaufa gave an example of the catholic media failing to report about the challenge of hunger that has caused deaths in Kenya because of failure to use the available technological tools to authenticate the situation in their magazines and electronic media, a scenario that ashamed the main stakeholders, the church which injects funds along with the SIGNIS and Congregatio de Propaganda Fide the main partners supporting projects aimed at acquiring media equipment and trainings.

He said responsible journalism is important in this time of age, corruption, conflict resolution, child protection and accountability must be observed and promoted in their daily operations because such evils are perpetuated by Catholics.

Fr. Kaufa has also advised Ugandan Catholic Broadcasters to publicise the forthcoming Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar SECAM that is to be held in July 2019 in Uganda where it was started and graced by St. Pope Paul VI when he visited Uganda in 1969.

He was addressing Uganda Catholic Communicators during their annual meeting held in Hoima diocese under the theme;”Networking for effective communication and resource mobilization”
