Catholic Media should not be intimidated while executing its roles

The Bishop Chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference Catholic Social Communications Rt. Rev. Joseph Franzelli Bishop Emeritus of Lira diocese has noted with concern the increasing threats to the media fraternity by the Uganda Communications Commission.

In his address to the Catholic Communicators Bishop Franzelli said a number of Catholic Radios have been receiving letters from UCC and currently one of them Radio Sapientia was listed among the 13 Radio and Tvs told to suspend their PD, News Editor and Producer.

He said according to the letters from the UCC media owners are told to always check on the UCC’s website because they keep on introducing new guidelines, he however says journalists should not be intimidated but must observe the law at the same time.

Bishop Franzelli says the media also needs to embark on civic education to help the society prepare for the forthcoming general elections.

He was addressing catholic communicators currently in their annual meeting in Hoima under the theme;”Networking for effective communication and resource mobilization”
