The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere has reminded Christians to work for the Kingdom of God instead of honoring wealth.

During the requiem mass at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Rubaga for the late Paul Kamuza Bakyenga, the Emeritus Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese, Archbishop Ssemogerere said that people are supposed to utilize the limited time God has given to them on earth to work for an everlasting life.

He commended the late Bakyenga for his dedicated service which touched many lives, saying the former archbishop has been a formatter and a person who strived for social justice and peace for all.

Archbishop Ssemogerere says the late Archbishop Bakyenga’s tenure as the chairperson of the Uganda Episcopal Conference will never be forgotten because the Catholic Church in Uganda achieved a lot.

Among the co-celebrants was Archbishop of Mbarara Lambert Bainomugisha, Dr Joseph Anthony Zziwa the chairperson Uganda Episcopal Conference, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok Vice Chairperson UEC, Archbishop John Baptist Odama of Gulu.

Other dignitaries from the Central government, Cultural institutions also paid their last respect including the Archbishop of the Orthodox Church His Eminence Metropolitan Leronymos Muzeeyi among others.

From Lubaga, the body has been transported to Nyamitanga Cathedral in Mbarara for reception at 6.00pm, followed by a holy mass and vigil.

On Saturday 22nd July there will be mass at 3.00pm to pray for the soul of the late at the same Cathedral.

The funeral mass for the Archbishop Emeritus Paul Kamuza Bakyenga will start at 11.00am on Sunday 23rd at Lady of Perpetual Help Nyamitanga Parish the seat of the Archdiocese of Mbarara and burial will start at 3.00pm in the Cathedral.

Government agreed to give him official burial.
