His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala has acknowledged the contribution by the friends of Bishops in Kampala Archdiocese towards the completion of St. Cosma Medical Clinic Kamaggwa in Kyotera district.

This was in a letter of appreciation the cardinal extended to each of the members of Friends of Bishop led by their chairperson, the Papal Knight Joseph Iga at a simple function held at Bishop Hanlon gardens, St. Peter’s Nsambya Parish on Wednesday afternoon.

Cardinal Wamala wasn’t able to attend the official commissioning of St. Cosma Medical Clinic Kamaggwa in Masaka on August 15th, 2023 by President Yoweri Museveni represented by the Vice President Jessica Alupo.

His Eminence looked overwhelmed as the chairman of the fundraising committee for the completion of this health facility Emmanuel Katongole introduced his fellow members with their contributions.

Cardinal Wamala hailed the team for keeping the commitment he started when still the Archbishop of Kampala before his retirement in 2006.

He further disclosed that the three girls from his family who the Friends of Bishop team supported back to school, graduated from the Uganda Martyrs University in various academic disciplines in the previous graduation ceremony.

Before, Katongole noted that following his appointment by the Cardinal in August 2021, he was able to mobilize his colleagues and raised Shs100 million to help in equipping the health facility and also managed to approach President Yoweri Museveni who contributed Shs 125 million through a cheque to buy all the necessary equipment from Uganda Medical Stores Nsambya which has since been delivered to the facility.

Katongole however requested for a private meeting with the cardinal next week to handover Shs 44 Million which is the balance from the total contribution but could also be planned for further improvement of the health facility once His Eminences agrees.

St. Cosma Medical Clinic Kamaggwa in Kyotera district was established by His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala in 2015 to provide health services to the community.

According to the Ministry of Health, the facility was accredited as a Health Center III, with a 28 bed capacity, children’s and maternity ward.

It was named in memory of Cardinal Wamala’s parents, the late Cosma Kyamera and Theresa Namayanja (who was a traditional birth attendant).
