Congratulatory messages from the Catholic Church and the public continue to pour in, wishing His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala a 92year birthday.

Over the weekend, Cardinal Wamala celebrated 92 years in a low-key event at the priests’ residence in Nsambya suburbs where he cut cake and briefly interacted with his 20 guests led by the Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.

Ssekandi, who congratulated the Cardinal upon his 92nd birthday, paid tribute to Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala for his dedicated service to the church and the country at large.

Cardinal Wamala, currently living at the Priestly Center Nsambya was born in 1926 to Mr. Cosma Kyamera Kumbuzi and Thereza Namayanja Ddiini Eyawula at Kamaggwa Kalisizo in Masaka.

He was ordained a priest of Masaka diocese in 1957 and served in various parishes in the diocese before he was appointed a Bishop of Kiyinda Mityana in 1981 at 54 years of age where he served until 1988.

He was later appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese and succeeded the late Cardinal Emmanuel Kiwanuka Nsubuga in 1990 as Archbishop of Kampala. He was elevated to Cardinal in 1994 and retired as the Archbishop of Kampala in 2006.

Many people have commended Cardinal Wamala for his exemplary service, knowledge and wisdom.

Cardinal Wamala has however attributed all his deeds to God and support from the Catholic Church.
