The chief guest for the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Kampala Archdiocese Cardinal Fernando Filoni the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples in the Roman Curia is arriving today.

Cardinal Filoni is to do a number of activities on Friday he will visit the youth at YES center in the morning, meet the religious and priests and the Religious at Ggaba National Seminary and in the afternoon he will first meet the married couples and later commission the new building at Lubaga Cathedral that houses the museum, the court, procure and some offices.

On Saturday Cardinal Filoni will consecrate Munyonyo martyrs shrine and later meet the catechists and teachers. He will also visit the physically handicapped children cared for by the missionaries of the poor at Mutundwe.

On Sunday October 29, 2017 Cardinal Feloni will lead the Eucharistic celebration at the Uganda martyrs catholic shrine Namugongo before the mass he will first visit the protestant church where a big number of martyrs were killed.

The celebrations to mark the 50 years of Kampala Archdiocese started last year 2016 with a number of activities lined that included including visitation of the portrait of Mother Mary to all the 65 parishes that currently make up the Archdiocese, pilgrimages to the Lubaga cathedral, administering of sacraments like baptism, confirmation and matrimony in high numbers among others.

Kampala archdiocese was established on August 5, 1966. The Holy See merged together Nsambya and Kampala dioceses to make Kampala Archdiocese. The late Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga was the first archbishop followed by His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala and now Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito.
