Cabinet has approved an increase in the fees paid for changing of particulars on the National Identification Card from 50,000shs to 300,000shs.

This has been disclosed by the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi while addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala.

He says many people have been changing the particulars on their national IDs with no strong reason and there was an increase in tendencies of public servants changing the age on their national IDs with the aim of prolonging their stay in the public service.

He however notes that those who wish to change their names after marriage, especially ladies wishing to include their partners’ name, will not be required to pay any fee.

Cabinet has also scrapped the 50,000Shs fee for renewal of the national IDs and the 40,000Shs as a penalty for delayed registration.

Baryomunsi, meanwhile, appeals to Ugandans to participate in the upcoming mass enrollment and renewal exercise of national IDs for all citizens which start on 1st June 2024.
