A section of Busoga sub region Member of Parliament have appealed to Kamuli district woman legislature also the former Speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga not to reject any ministerial position given to her.

Earlier rumors from the Executive stated that Kadaga was likely to be the next Prime Minister or Vise President.

Speaking to some of the MPs from Busoga at Parliament, most of them say that this will still show that Busoga has a strong representative in Cabinet.

However, on several occasions and after her swearing in, Kadaga vowed not to accept any ministerial position saying she can’t serve in executive.

Kadaga who has served as a Member of Parliament since 1989 and as a speaker from 2011 to 2021 failed to make for the third term when NRM’s CEC dropped her.

She opted to come as an independent but was beaten by her former deputy who is also the Omoro County Member of Parliament in Omoro district, Acholi Sub-region Jacob L’okori Oulanyah becoming the Speaker for the 11th Parliament.

He gunned 310 votes from the 524 casted votes cast and Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga got 197 while Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) polled 15 votes.

Oulanyah has been the Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament since May 19th 2011and he is lawyer, agricultural economist and former cardholder of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

The position for the deputy speaker of parliament was taken by the Bukedea District Woman MP who polled 415 votes beating Mohammad Nsereko MP Kampala Central who polled 24 votes on an independent ticket and Yusuf Nsibambi of FDC a new entrant in parliament who polled 35 votes while 7 votes were invalid.
