Long distance travellers are stranded at most of the bus terminals in Kampala following a strike that started yesterday.

Bus owners under the Uganda Bus Owners Association (UBOA) have vowed to continue with their ongoing strike following Kampala Capital City Authority’s (KCCA) decision to block buses from leaving the parks over unpaid fees.

According to KCCA, each bus is mandated to pay Shs2.4 million annually as user park fees which bus owners disclaim due to the state of business performance at the moment.

The Shs 2.4 million per bus instead of the Shs 72.6 million which was supposed to be paid anually was reahed after a presidential intervention which led to the suspension of the later sum of money in 2016.

Hanington Kiwanuka the chairman of bus drivers in Uganda blames the whole situation to the bus owners who do not want to cooperate.

Simon Kasyate the public relations officer at KCCA has asked the bus owners to pay the little tax the government levied since they make a lot of profits from the business.
