Buganda Kingdom has passed a budget of UGX158bn for the financial year 2022/23.

The Budget has been increased by UGX37billion representing 23.3% increment from the last budget for the Financial Year 2021/22.

This budget has been presented by the Kingdom’s Finance Minister Owek Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa during the Buganda Parliament commonly known as Lukiiko at Bulange – Mengo.

 

The budget will be financed with funds from Cooperatives accounting to UGX32.5bn development partners accounting to UGX29.1bn,Communications UGX 28bn, then Envujjo, Busuulu and Kanzu are expected to contribute UGX 24bn ,

 

Priority areas have been put on sectors like Education that will take UGX18bn, Sports and Youths UGX4bn, Tourism UGX870m, Buganda Culture and Heritage fund UGX757m Mwanyi Terimba limited Shs600m and Buganda Law Chamber UGX500m among others.

 

Owek Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa emphasized that they are to spend UGX 33.200bn on different activities such construction of hospitals in some counties, construction of schools, improving local government activities among others.

 

Surprisingly the Financial Year 2022/23 ending June 30th the Kingdom projected a budget of UGX121billion but collected UGX125bn giving a surplus of UGX 3bn.

 

Nsibirwa revealed that the surplus was collected mainly from the payment of UGX10bn from among others; the central government debts totaling to UGX 500bn, increase in savings in Buganda cooperatives, Envujju, Obusuulu, Ekanzu plus Buganda law chambers.
